몸은 어떻게 세계를 감각하는가?
마음은 어떻게 그 감각들 사이의 관계를 조직하고, 태도로 드러나는가?

서양 근대철학의 이원론적 틀 속에서 몸은 대상이 되었고, 마음(정신)은 판단하는 주체로 분리되어 이해되어 왔습니다. 반면 동양철학의 사유에서 몸과 마음은 애초에 분리되지 않은 하나의 흐름이며, 세계와 끊임없이 상호작용하는 관계적 존재로 인식되어 왔습니다.

이 전시는 서구의 객관적 시선과 동양의 관계적 시선을 단순히 대비하거나 어느 하나를 극복해야 한다는 이야기를 하고자 하지 않습니다. 인류는 지금 역사의 그 어느 순간보다 더 급진적인 변화의 시대 속에 있습니다. 우리가 당연하다고 믿어왔던 모든 것들이 하루 아침에 해체되고 재배치되고 있는 이 거대한 변화의 국면 앞에서 우리의 삶에 불어닥친 불확실성에 대해, 그리고 우리의 감각과 경험이 어떻게 변화되어 가는지를 함께 사유해보는 시간이 되기를 희망합니다.

인공지능의 등장은 인간의 고유성이 무엇인가에 대해 다시 질문하게 만드는 계기가 되었습니다. 오늘날 우리는 사고와 판단의 일부를 인공지능에게 위임하고, 감각은 기술과 제도에 의해 조정·통제되는 시대를 살아가고 있습니다. 이러한 조건 속에서 인간의 근본적인 조건인 ‘몸과 마음’이라는 오래된 질문을 오늘의 언어로 다시 사유하고자 합니다.

* 일반지성은 첫번째 전시를 오래된 집과 함께 엽니다. 앞으로 기획과 전시를 중심으로 지속적인 대화와 협력을 이어갈 예정입니다. 일반지성은 오래된 집 뿐만 아니라 현재 독일, 인도네시아, 중국을 비롯한 여러 국내외 전시 공간들과의 협업을 논의 중에 있습니다. 앞으로 더 많은 공간들과의 네트워크를 확장해 주제를 공유하고, 동시대에 일어나고 있는 세계의 변화에 대해 다루고 기록해 나갈 계획입니다.

How does the body sense the world?
How does the mind organize those sensations and manifest them as attitude?

Within the dualistic framework of Western modern philosophy, the body has long been treated as an object, while the mind—or spirit—has been understood as the judging subject, separated from it. In contrast, Eastern philosophical thought has regarded body and mind not as divided entities, but as a continuous flow: a relational existence constantly interacting with the world.

This exhibition does not seek to simply oppose the Western objective gaze to the Eastern relational one, nor to suggest that one must overcome the other. Humanity has entered a period of transformation more radical than at any other moment in history. At a time when what once seemed self-evident is rapidly dismantled and rearranged, this exhibition invites reflection on the uncertainty that has come to shape our lives, and on how our senses and experiences are being reconfigured in the process.

The emergence of artificial intelligence has renewed fundamental questions about what constitutes human uniqueness. Today, elements of thought and judgment are increasingly delegated to machines, while perception itself is shaped and regulated by technology and systems. Within these conditions, the exhibition returns to the enduring question of “body and mind,” reconsidering it through the language and realities of the present.

Future projects and exhibitions will continue to unfold through sustained conversation and collaboration. Beyond this initial site, General Intellect is currently in discussion with a range of exhibition spaces in Korea and abroad, including Germany, Indonesia, and China. Through an expanding network of spaces, it aims to share themes, and to engage with and document the transformations shaping the contemporary world.
